Dolly

A child taken and a monster that wants to play house — Dolly builds its horror out of a premise simple enough to sting. Young Macy is abducted by a deranged, monstrous figure that intends to raise her as its own, which turns captivity into something worse than a cage: a household, with rules, with affection of a sort. The tagline insists that mommy knows best, and the film leans hard into that queasy domestic register, where tenderness and terror share a room.

Horror viewers who prefer dread built from intimacy rather than spectacle are the target here. At eighty-three minutes there is no fat on it, so expect a quick, mean escalation rather than a leisurely build, and expect discomfort rather than jump-scare fun. If you like small, tightly wound genre pieces that get in, unsettle you, and get out before the evening is gone, this one earns its slot on the queue.
