Our Review Editorial

The stars are gone. That is where this one begins — an event called The Quiet Rapture erased every known star and habitable planet from the universe — and what remains is a desolate moon with an ocean of blood on it, and a convict sent down to search it in a cramped submarine nicknamed the Iron Lung. The tagline is blunt about the arrangement: this is not an expedition, it's an execution. Few premises have promised claustrophobia and cosmic despair so efficiently.

This is for viewers who like their horror airless and existential, closer to dread than to danger — the crowd that finds a small metal hull in a hostile medium scarier than any creature. At two hours and five minutes it has room for a genuine slow burn, which the setup all but requires. Expect isolation, mounting wrongness and very little comfort. An excellent late-night watch if bleak, immersive science fiction is your idea of a good time.
