Synopsis

A marine biologist is doing research on a fish farm when she encounters several strange occurrences. Along with the brutal deaths of two teenagers, all signs point to the deep fjord; can there be more to the depths than the eye can see?

Our Review Editorial

Only five percent of the ocean has been explored for a reason, the tagline warns, and this one drops a marine biologist into a fish farm where the odd occurrences are stacking up faster than she can explain them. Two teenagers have died brutally, and every sign points down into the deep fjord. It is a classic creature-feature architecture — an expert, a body count, a body of water nobody wants to enter — dressed in the cold, grey texture that a fjord setting brings with it.

Monster-movie fans who like their scares environmental rather than psychological are the right audience. Ninety-four minutes keeps the structure tight, which usually means a steady build of evidence before whatever is down there is properly seen. Expect atmosphere and dread over gore, and a setting that does a lot of the work. A solid choice for anyone who enjoys deep-water horror and the very reasonable fear of what lives below.
