Lee Cronin’s The Mummy

A journalist's young daughter walks into the desert and vanishes completely; eight years later she comes back. That premise is the whole engine, and it is a nasty, well-chosen one, because the film is far less interested in where she went than in what has returned in her place. A reunion that should heal a broken family instead becomes the beginning of the ordeal, and the horror grows from the awful gap between the child everyone remembers and the presence now sitting at the table.

This is slow-burn, grief-soaked horror rather than jump-scare fare, and it rewards viewers who like dread built out of family damage and unbearable silences. Expect an unhurried first act that tightens into something genuinely punishing, with the desert hanging over everything as an unanswered question. Anyone drawn to possession stories, mourning turned monstrous, or horror that hurts before it frightens will find this one lands hard. Not a light watch, but a memorable one.
