Our Review Editorial

Medieval England, where survival is already grim work: Anne and her domineering mother-in-law Morwen scrape by at the margins of a society with no use for either of them. Then a man from Anne's past returns from the war, a curse begins to gather, and a mysterious knight takes shape at the edge of their world. The film runs folk horror through a war-scarred landscape, where dread accumulates in mud, weather, and the poisonous closeness of two women stuck with each other.

For viewers who favour atmosphere over shock and who like historical horror that treats period hardship as the real haunting. Ninety-four minutes of slow, clammy build, more interested in unease than in incident. Expect a hostile setting, a suffocating domestic relationship, and folkloric menace that stays half-glimpsed rather than explained. If you enjoy quiet, muddy, genuinely unsettling horror rather than the loud kind, this is worth the candlelight.
