Our Review Editorial
After a catastrophic military disaster, the dead return, and the authorities insist they're harmless: slow, sad and no threat to the families who mourn them. That comforting lie unravels when Ava ventures into a quarantine zone to find her missing husband and discovers the undead are turning more violent and relentless by the hour. Blending horror, science fiction and thriller, this film from a trio of directors puts Daisy Ridley and Brenton Thwaites at the heart of a creeping nightmare dressed up as official reassurance.
Tense and steadily escalating, it uses its undead premise to probe grief, denial and the danger of trusting institutions over instinct. The dread builds rather than explodes, rewarding viewers who like their horror laced with mystery and a ticking clock. Anyone drawn to apocalyptic thrillers with a strong central search and a sting of dread should mark this one down.
