Our Review Editorial

Patton James traded the cage for a fishing boat, and Beast runs on the oldest, most reliable engine in sports cinema: the reason a retired fighter has to strap the gloves back on. With his brother in danger, he returns to his old coach Sammy for one last championship run against Xavier Grau, a champion whose reputation for brutality does most of the pre-fight work. The texture is blue-collar and weathered, all salt air and gym chalk and a body that has already given plenty.

For fight-film fans who want the training montage, the reconciliation and the crowd noise delivered with conviction rather than reinvention, this hits its marks. Just under two hours leaves room to build the bond between fighter and coach before the final bout takes over. Expect familiar beats carried with real physical weight, and a collision you can see coming from the first reel, which is precisely the pleasure. A solid pick for a night when you want stakes you can feel in your ribs.
