This is fight cinema first, a no-holds-barred and deliberately gory tournament picture that treats spectacle as the point rather than the garnish. Expect heightened worlds, big entrances, and a structure engineered to keep delivering matchups with the fate of the realm hanging over each one.
Aimed squarely at fans of the games and of unapologetic martial-arts fantasy, viewers who want choreography, carnage and a clean stakes-of-the-realm setup. At 1h 56m it keeps a brisk, escalating rhythm, moving from confrontation to confrontation with little interest in subtlety. If you came for bone-crunching set pieces and franchise mythology rather than nuance, it delivers exactly the evening it promises, and it plays best loud and with company.
